Sales & Classifieds

Tuesday, 30 April 2019

The Southwind Ayrshires Ultimate Dispersal sale took place on Friday 26 April at Stratford, and set a number of new breed sale records.

100 lots averaged $4,041, with 56 cows averaging $4,234, 11 in-calf heifers averaging $3,918, 28 yearling heifers averaging $3,993 and 5 bulls averaging $2,420.  The New Zealand record cow price was broken twice within minutes.  First by Lot 5 Southwind DW Queenas, V9-9, a four year old cow sired by Family-Af-Ayr Doublwhammy ET (US) out of Southwind KC Queenas ET, VHC.  Queenas produced 7,452 litres milk, 333 kg fat, 252 kg protein at 3 years.  She was purchased for $24,000 by Nicky Hine of Mayfair Trust, Taranaki, who also went on to purchase the next record price cow, Lot 10 Southwind TSB Quaint ET, V8-9 for a new breed record price of $26,000.  Quaint is sired by the US bull Palmyra Tri-Star Burdette ET out of famed cow Southwind Jules Qantas, E8-9.  Two year old Quaint has produced 6991 litres milk, 288 kg fat, 221 kg protein in 207 days to date in her first lactation.  Both cows are from the Southwind Qantas family.

The top priced in calf heifer was Lot 65 Southwind Ladylove RSN, once again from the Qantas family.  Sired by Ravenhill Stormin Norman (UK) and out of Southwind Quan Ladylike ET, E8-9, Ladylove was purchased for $5,500 by J & T Leech.  Lot 76 Southwind Deb Sparkle was the top priced heifer calf, purchased for $8,200 by Steiner Partnership (Vince & Sheridan Steiner), Tokoroa.  Sparkle is sired by Rosemoor Spark ET out of Southwind TSB Deborah ET, V8-8.  Deborah herself sold for $17,000 to a syndicate, placing her at fourth for breed cow sale prices.

Alongside the two new cow records, this well-supported sale now tops the records for complete dispersal averages ($4,041).  Congratulations to Albie & Hilary Jane on an extremely successful sale.
